Michael Ranson is a Partner of Blue Wolf Capital Partners LLC, and a member of its Investment Committee. The Blue Wolf Capital Funds are a family of private equity funds focused on transformational investments in middle market companies.
Mr. Ranson joined Blue Wolf in 2008 and serves on the Board of Directors of Blue Wolf portfolio companies Mustang Extreme Environmental Services, Novo Building Products, and The State Group. His areas of expertise include bankruptcy and restructuring, financing structures, and development of corporate strategy at middle market companies.
Before joining Blue Wolf, Mr. Ranson served as a Portfolio Manager at GoldenTree Asset Management, L.P., an alternative asset management firm with $12 billion of assets under management at the time. In this capacity, he made private equity and debt investments in middle market companies and helped manage the firm’s private finance strategy. He was directly responsible for over $600 million of investments and helped oversee a $1.5 billion portfolio.
From 1999 – 2004, Mr. Ranson was a Vice President at American Capital Ltd., a publicly-traded buyout and mezzanine fund (NASDAQ: ACAS), where he worked closely with Adam Blumenthal. At ACAS, Mr. Ranson made private equity and debt investments in middle market companies while helping establish the company’s portfolio management group.
Mr. Ranson began his career as a Financial Analyst with Chase Manhattan’s Leveraged Finance department, making and underwriting loans to companies in a variety of industries — from manufacturing, media, entertainment, and telecommunications to green energy, paper, and restaurants.
Mr. Ranson received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University where he attended on a full scholarship. Mr. Ranson is the recipient of a 40 Under 40 East Region M&A Advisor Recognition Award. He is also an Eagle Scout.
